This week’s theme is 'Marvellous misfits'.  Many of the groups have pets with special needs, from animals with three legs to one eye, to extremely energetic to weight problems and cats with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) who put people off as they don't understand what this entails. All these misfits wait patiently to find a family to love and care for them.

Dorian - 38 Smiles

We first saw Dorian during one of our regular feeding rounds. White, semi-fluffy, beautiful young cat that appeared from nowhere. Dorian had a bit of a cold so we picked him up for treatment and we thought was going to be an easy rehoming after he's recovered from the cold and was castrated and vaccinated. We were wrong. We found him in November, last year. Till a week ago Dorian was in a cage in isolation fighting one condition after another. This poor cat has been treated for upper respiratory tract infection, which unfortunately turns out to be chronic and will stay with him for the rest of his life. We are optimistic that it will become better with time but he will need daily eye and nose cleaning and a daily dose of Flumax, which he happily takes mixed with his wet food twice a day. Dorian also had an entropion surgery on his right eye. He had inverted eyelids and from the constant rubbing of the eyelids against the eye and constant cleaning with his paw, he had damaged his eye.  We would like to find a home for Dorian. We would cover the vet bills and he would get to live in a loving home. For more information about Dorian, click here or email 38 Smiles on info@38smiles.com

Snowy - Animal Action

Snowy is deaf and therefore needs a family that can communicate with her using hand gestures. She likes people, children, and other dogs. She is currently in a home with four other canines. She would do well in a home with adults that will know how to communicate with her and can devote more time to training her. For more information about Snowy, click here or email Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com

Spice - Animal Action

Spice would really love to be in a forever home. He has been through a lot and had to get a leg amputated. He is currently in a foster home with his lovely foster parents and canine friend called Atom. Spice is a lovely cat who would make a great addition to any family and after his ordeal he really deserves a chance. He's just so lovely.  For more information about Spice, click here or email Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com

Nahda - Animal Action

Meet our new girl Nahda - this was the stray dog that we rescued last week who's puppies were stillborn. She had an infection in her womb and so we believe that the pups were probably already dead before birth. She has now been operated on and is recuperating in a short term foster home. She is still very nervous and scared around people therefore needs a very patient foster home that will slowly show her that she can trust people.  For more information about Nahda, email Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com

Caracol - Rosso Carota Rescues Cats (RCRC)

He was rescued from the street, crawling. His x-rays showed that he had an injury to his back and spine and some damaged nerves and as a result muscle atrophy, or a decrease in the mass of the muscle, of the hind paws. After long medical treatment, intensive physiotherapy, daily walks with and without using a wheelchair and lots of love and care he began to walk again without any support. He has a strange gait due to the fact that he sometimes loses his balance.  For more information about Caracol, click here or email RCRC on natalyasubbota@gmail.com

Georgie - Mac's Pack

Georgie is a five-year-old English Bulldog. She is spayed, vaccinated and in great health. Georgie is looking for a very special home, due to her special needs. She has had it a bit rough in her five years, having been moved around many times. She can be quite nervous and when startled, she can become a bit rapacious. Georgie will need a family that is understanding and patient with her.  For more information about Georgie, click here or email Mac's Pack on macspack.uae@gmail.com

Simon - K9 Friends

Simon is a four-year-old male Saluki. He had a horribly broken leg when he arrived at the shelter but with help from the veterinary hospitals, he was pieced back together again. Simon still has a metal hip and we like to think of him as our bionic dog. He’s got an attitude but his leg causes him no issues at all. For more information about Simon, click here, call K9 Friends on 04 887 8739 before 1pm or email info@k9friends.com

Susie - Dubai Animal Welfare Society (DAWS)

Susie is one of the two dogs that were caught in a residential area in Dubai. She is chipped and vaccinated. Susie is extremely sweet and very affectionate. She's also very active, typical Malinois. She needs someone who understands and appreciates the breed.  For more information about Susie, click here or email DAWS on info.daws@gmail.com

Bart - Sharjah Cats and Dogs Shelter (SCADS)

Bart is a seven-month-old male Persian kitten, who's silent and possibly deaf; although the vet says he can hear but chooses to ignore us. He's not the most intelligent feline but his goofy attitude is the most entertaining thing you will ever see. For more information about Bart, click here, call SCADS on 06 5453985 or visit their Facebook page.

Shangeet - Sandy Paws

Shangeet is one of our FIV positive cats – one year old, neutered male. He just loves people and is great with other cats, too. Was found living at a hotel and loved being with the guests but the management removed him.  For more information about Shangeet, click here or email Sandy Paws on covill@eim.ae
