Dubai: Residents woke up to a sandstorm as strong winds kicked up dust into the sky, reducing visibility as unsettled weather conditions prevailed across the country on Wednesday.

Motorists were also urged to drive safely due to reduced visibility.

On Tuesday, forecaster from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said dust particles suspended in the air blown northeastward reduced visibility in some places down to to 2,000 meters.

The mercury has also dropped.

On Wednesday, the temperature was expected to drop in Dubai to around 18 degrees C from 5pm after peaking at about 26 degrees around noon.

Weathermen said there's a slight chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

The winds will stay gusty with speeds of up to 45 km/h and humidity of 54 per cent, said weathermen.
