Abu Dhabi: Nominations for the Abu Dhabi Awards (ADA) started on Sunday and the awards ceremony is due to take place in December 2008.

The ADA recognises individuals who have made a positive contribution to the community through their generosity and kindness.

Since it's inception in 2005, the ADA has generated more than 93,000 nominations which have recognised more than 13,000 individuals for performing selfless acts of goodness that benefit the society.

According to Maryam Amiri from the ADA organising Committee, anyone who has performed an act of kindness, big or small, can be nominated.

"It only takes one nomination for someone to receive an award as it is based entirely on their actions and not on the number of nominations received. Once a person is nominated, they cannot be nominated again. We like to give chances to new nominees," said Amiri.

The fourth upcoming 2008 ADA will target universities, colleges and high schools since residents of all ages and nationalities are encouraged to nominate through 111 nomination locations across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi through ADA smart cars, online nomination registration at www.abudhabiawards.ae or faxing a nomination form to toll free number 800-33300 or to P.O.BOX 44442.
