Dubai: Diego Maradona's threat to cut his ties with Al Wasl seem to have been shelved, at least temporarily, following a lengthy meeting between the football legend and the clubs' management late on Wednesday.

Sources within the club told Gulf News that, after nearly three hours of deliberations, the coach and management arrived at some sort of agreement to compromise on certain aspects that Maradona sees as impediments to the Al Wasl team achieving their full potential.

"It was a friendly meeting and both parties were more than cordial while discussing issues that have been raised by Maradona in recent weeks," the source said.

"No one knows what was promised or what was planned, keeping the future of the club in mind during the meeting. But it is reassuring to have him [Maradona] looking ahead optimistically."
